Va Pensiero Primed for 2015 The Galaxy Success

March 20th, 2015

While allocated the somewhat wide and awkward barrier 11, trainer Jason Coyle is confident Va Pensiero has the form to win Saturday’s Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Posting a commendable race record of three wins and as many minor place finishes over his 14 starts career to date, Va Pensiero missed the Spring Carnival with a string of minor ailments but returned for a close second in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) on March 7th.

Thrilled with the form acquired by the son of Stratum since the competitive hit-out, Coyle told Racing Ahead he is unfazed with the allocation of barrier 11; believing his runner is more than capable of crossing the field and finding a position towards the fore of the pack.

“A couple of times we have tried to get him to settle back a bit further back than he has wanted to and it just hasn’t panned out for him,” Coyle said.

“I honestly think that the barrier is no issue for him, he will just sort of roll forward and Jason has had a couple of rides on him now.

“He will just find his comfort zone and if he gets a nice run in transit he is a horse that tries really hard to the winning post.

“He is really well and we are looking forward to Saturday.

“He is a very easy horse to train and he has a lot of natural ability.

“We have just ticked him over from his first-up run and he is doing well.

“If he hadn’t performed like that I don’t think that we would have ended up with a run in the race on Saturday, so hopefully it is falling into place nicely for him.

“His fresh form is very good and he obviously likes the Rosehill track.

“You would expect him to be a chance in a very competitive race on Saturday.”

Returning in 2014 for second in the Group 3 Maurice McCarten Stakes (1100m), Va Pensiero was unlucky to be blocked for a run and fifth in the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m) in his only other start for the year. is currently offering the best 2015 The Galaxy odds, for which Va Pensiero can be taken at a particularly generous quote of $19 for success.
