March 18th, 2015

A particularly talented and capacity field of 14 plus three emergencies have been confirmed to contest Saturday’s Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, highlighted by the inclusion of several previous winners at the highest level of Australian racing.

Tiger Tees broke through for a maiden Group 1 victory in the 2014 edition of The Galaxy and has been confirmed for a title defence this weekend.

Securing thirteen race wins and a further six minor place finishes over an impressive 31 start career so far, Tiger Tees (barrier 9) charged home to win the Listed Falvelon (1200m) upon resuming in 2014, and while appearing to be outclassed when beating just one runner home in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m), responded in the best way possible when taking out The Galaxy.

Progressing to fourth in the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) and third in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) most notably in autumn, the Dubawi gelding won each of the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) and Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) before placing second in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) on September 6th.

While failing to beat a single runner home in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) first-up a fortnight ago, Tiger Tees is sure to relish the condition of The Galaxy once more this weekend.

Deep Field (barrier 17) has been disappointing in his two race starts so far this year, but is offered a great chance of a return to the winner’s circle and maiden Group 1 title in the 2015 The Galaxy.

Winning each of his first five race starts through 2014 including both the Listed Lightning (1100m) and Group 2 Salinger Stakes (1200m), Deep Field was touted as one to watch in headline events this season, but has only managed a fading third in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) and second in the Group 3 Maurice McCarten Stakes (1000m) last weekend.

Three-year-old colt Rubick returned for a credible third in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) two weeks ago and is sure to have taken condition from the hit-out ahead of The Galaxy.

Winning each of his first two starts including the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) before fading for a disappointing fourth in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) last autumn, Rubick defeated talented open company in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1000m) first-up in spring, but was caught on the ‘wrong’ side of the Flemington track when 12th in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on November 1st.

Sweet Idea is arguably one of the country’s most talented mares yet to break through for a Group 1 win and will be tough to beat in the 2015 The Galaxy.

Saddled by Gai Waterhouse, Sweet Idea has posted an impressive record of seven wins and eight minor place finishes from her 18 competitive starts to date and has trialled well in the lead-up to her 2015 return on Saturday.

Placing second in each of the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1200m) and Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) most notably through spring, the Snitzel mare is a proven first-up performer and is sure to find a good position from barrier 12 on Saturday.

Atmospherical (barrier 7), Chloe In Paris (barrier 5) and Kuro (barrier 10) have been confirmed as The Galaxy’s three emergency runners.
