The Galaxy is one of five Group One races running at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this Saturday, with $400,000 in prize money on offer.

Headlining the nominations is defending champion Tiger Tees, who won last year’s edition of the race by a head. The seven-year-old gelding was away well and settled just behind the leaders on the rail. He was still there on the turn for home before hitting the lead with 200 metres to go. He found himself under assault in the final 100 metres but was strong enough to the line to hold off his challengers.

Tiger Tees had a successful yet short spring campaign, winning the Group 3 Aurie’s Handicap (1200m) first-up on August 9 followed by the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) two weeks later. He ended the season with a runner-up finish to Lucia Valentina in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) on September 6, after which he was spelled for four months.

The Joseph Pride-trained gelding resumed in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) on March 7 but failed to run out the race, finishing eight lengths off winner Cosmic Endeavour in last place. Tiger Tees jumped well and rolled across the outside gate to sit second, one length off the outside lead. He found himself under extreme pressure approaching the final 300 metres and shuffled back through the field thereafter.

Pride has also nominated both Kuro and Rain Affair for the 2015 Galaxy.

Peter & Paul Snowden’s Miracles Of Life will be one runner to watch after the four-year-old mare won the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) first-up on March 7. Miracles Of Life was awkwardly away but mustered speed to be fifth on the fence behind a strong early tempo. She crept closer from the 600 metre mark, swinging wider off heels into the centre of the track on straightening. Looming from 400 metres, the mare dashed by the tiring leaders with 200 metres to go for an easy two and a quarter length win.

Another fast horse nominated for the race is Team HawkesDeep Field, who has placed in all seven of his career starts and ran third behind Lankan Rupee and Brazen Beau in the Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) on February 21. Considering Lankan Rupee is a five-time Group One winner and the highest-rated sprinter in the world while Brazen Beau impressively won the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) on Saturday by two and three-quarter lengths, Deep Field’s form is holding up quite well.

Other classy 2015 The Galaxy nominations include Les Bridge’s Avoid Lightning, Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) third placegetter Fast ‘N’ Rocking, Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) runner-up Flamberge, Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) minor placer Famous Seamus, Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) winner Heart Testa, and Gerald Ryan’s Rubick.
