January 28th, 2015

Trainer Joe Pride was thrilled with the results posted by talented three-year-old Kuro over the Spring Racing Carnival and has revealed he will be set for the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 21st.

Finishing outside the top three only twice in eight appearances at the races so far, Kuro was last seen kicking well in the late stages of the famous Flemington straight to finish a credible third in the major Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on November 1st.

Having reportedly taken well to his time in the paddock and subsequent return to work, Pride revealed the Listed Fireball Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill on February 21st will figure as the first point of call for the Denman colt ahead of The Galaxy.

“He is going to have a couple of trials heading into the Fireball and then go to The Galaxy,” Pride said.

“I couldn’t be happier with him and he looks in great order.

“He has made a bit of a transition from a spring three-year-old to now a much stronger autumn three-year-old and I think he will be able to take that next step.

“The Galaxy is his main aim in the autumn and physically he has really come on.”

Beating a talented field to the line in the Reelmen Australia Plate (1000m) on debut in March, Kuro placed sixth in the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) and fifth in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) on April 11th before returning to the paddock.

Transferred to Pride’s care when initial trainer John O’Shea took up the reigns as head trainer at Godolphin, Kuro won minor sprints over 1000m and 1100m respectively first-up before taking out each of the Listed Heritage Stakes (1100m) and Listed Brian Crowley Stakes (1200m) leading into his Coolmore Stud Stakes third.

A final field for the 2015 Fireball Handicap is due to be released by midday, February 18th while a final field and barrier draw for The Galaxy is due to be completed on March 18th.
