2014 The Galaxy Betting Preview and Tips

March 28th, 2014

The 2014 Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) will feature just 13 runners at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this weekend after leading chance Snitzerland was removed by trainer Gerald Ryan as a result of the persistent rain and soft track.

With the leading Snitzel mare out of the way, talented runner Rain Affair has claimed outright favouritism in betting markets for 2014 The Galaxy success at current odds of $6, ahead of Villa Verde ($6.50), Kencella ($7.50), Sessions and Temple Of Boom; sharing the fourth line of betting at a current quote of ($8.50).

Will Rain Affair justify favouritism amongst punters in the 2014 Galaxy, or will one of his talented adversaries find the finishing line in the clear?

1st

Temple Of Boom ($8.50)

Winner of the 2012 edition of The Galaxy, Temple Of Boom has since been unable to claim another race win at any level, however has become known as a particularly consistent runner, particularly in wet conditions. Having poured down at Rosehill Gardens all week, the well-trialled Piccolo gelding is offered a keen opportunity to return to the winner’s circle this weekend, particularly with in-form jockey Hugh Bowman on board.

2nd

Kencella ($7.50)

Yet to finish outside the places in 7 starts this preparation along, Kencella is arguably the formed runner heading into the 2014 The Galaxy, particularly after securing three-straight wins most recently including the Group 3 Maurice McCarten Stakes (1100m) with ease on March 22nd. While yet to contest an event at the highest level of Australian racing, Kencella will be partnered by rising star Chad Schofield this weekend and looks good to continue his incredible run of form.

3rd

Bel Sprinter ($11)

Champion of last year’s The Galaxy when producing an incredible final straight sprint to win from the rear of the field, Bel Sprinter was one of the 2013 autumn success stories, finishing third behind equine superstar Black Caviar in the Group 1 T.J Smith Stakes (1200m) before heading abroad to finish an unlucky second to Lucky Nine in the Group 1 Krisflyer International Sprint 2013 (1200m) in Singapore. Despite a less-than-convincing first-up performance when ninth in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m), the talented Bel Esprit gelding ran a strong race for fourth in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) last time out and will be tough to beat from barrier 2 this weekend.
