Weights Key To Hay List’s 2013 The Galaxy Handicap Chances

March 25th, 2013

Trainer John McNair is anxiously waiting on the 2013 The Galaxy Handicap weights to determine whether or not he will accept with his galloper Hay List.

The weights will be released tomorrow, and Sadler is hoping that Hay List will not be given any more than 60 kilograms.

Hay List will certainly run in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes this autumn and Sadler doesn’t want to give the galloper too hard of a task in the 2013 The Galaxy Handicap.

“I don’t understand why they have a handicap as the lead-in to the major sprint of the carnival,” McNair said.

“If he gets more than 60 kilos he won’t run.

“The Challenge Stakes used to be two weeks before the TJ.

“We will look at all options including the Goodwood in Adelaide but if they get the million dollars for the All Aged then we can go there.”

A run in both the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes and the Group 1 All Aged Stakes would see him face two potential clashes with champion mare Black Caviar, who is in the midst of her final race campaign.

While Hay List is no certainty for the 2013 The Galaxy Handicap, last start Challenge Stakes winner Snitzerland will definitely be taking her position in the race this weekend.

Snitzerland beat Hay List in her last start and trainer Gerald Ryan feels her chances are even better in the 2013 The Galaxy.

“There was 4-1/2 kilos between them in the Challenge at weight-for-age,” Ryan said.

“In a handicap she should be getting at least 7-1/2 kilos from him and because, she’s a filly, another two kilos.”
